Derek Livingston wins 3rd at Halfpipe Rodeo World Cup Presented by Aexos 


Canadian takes home his first ever FIS Snowboard World Cup Podium

Calgary, AB ( February 16, 2019) – Derek Livingston (Aurora, ON) took home the bronze medal Friday night at the Calgary, AB 2019 Halfpipe Rodeo World Cup presented by Aexos. It’s the Canadian rider’s first ever World Cup podium, and the Ontario native earned is bronze medal on home soil with a score of 85.00.  Japan’s Yuto Totsuka (89.00) and Ruka Hirano (87.50) took home the gold and silver respectively.
 
Putting down an incredibly stylish and technical run under the floodlights of Canada Olympic Park’s 22’ foot Superpipe, Livingston threw down a variety of tricks including: a Frontside 1260, Cab double 1080, and Frontside 1080 on his second run to walk away with his bronze medal. 
 
"It’s surreal, for a long time it didn’t even feel like I podiumed," exclaimed Livingston. "Once I was able to see all my friends, my coach, my family, everybody coming in to wish me congratulations, that’s when all the emotions and the euphoric feeling came rushing in all at once. "
 
Canada Olympic Park remains an important training base for Canada’s national halfpipe team, which made the podium all the much sweeter for Livingston who has been training there for many years.
 
"It’s so awesome to win at home here in Canada because we train here, and it’s nice to bring the World Cup back to Calgary," added Livingston. "Words can’t explain how happy I am right now. This is my first World Cup podium, and honestly I’m so excited for the future because I’ve been putting in a lot of work and it’s all been paying off."
 
Livingston’s next contest will be the prestigious Burton US Open, where he finished in 7th place last year.

Ontario snowboarders set to compete in PyeongChang 2018 Winter Games.

TORONTO (January 25, 2018) – The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and Canada Snowboard officially announced the athletes nominated to represent Canada in the halfpipe at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang. They join a team of highly talented athletes from across the country to compete at the highest level of their sport. Derek and Calynn were selected based on their performances in FIS World Cup Championship events between July 1, 2016 and January 21, 2018.

This will be Derek’s second Olympic Games, following a strong debut in the Sochi 2014 Winter Games. Calynn will be competing in her first Olympic Winter Games following years of hard work in the FIS World Cup Circuit.

“Having qualified for the Olympics for my second time is pretty amazing. Last time I was a rookie and this year I’ve got more tricks, more experience, and more drive. The halfpipe at the test event was one of the best pipes I’ve ridden and I am really excited to compete for Canada and better my results from my first Games.” – Derek Livingston on being named to the Canadian Olympic Team.

The snowboard halfpipe event will be held at Phoenix Snow Park in PyeongChang, South Korea. Calynn makes her Olympic Debut in the Women’s Halfpipe Qualification round, February 12th (13:30-15:00 Local time). Derek will be dropping in to the Men’s Halfpipe Qualification round, February 13th (13:00-14:50 Local time).
